Folio 87: G. Crowle to C. Amyand. More details about the island of Principe and its potentiality for British trade. Portuguese trade with India chiefly managed hitherto by the Jesuits, but now a French merchant, has been granted a licence (S.P.89/48, f.110,112), which may prove detrimental to British trade in Asia. Thinks La Bourdonnais may be the instigator. Damage done by prolonged drought. Arrival of the richest fleet ever from Brazil, with gold and silver worth £3,000,000 sterling.
