Folio 85: Charles Compton to Duke of Newcastle. Has presented King George II's letter of condolence on death of the Infante Dom Francisco. King John has attended an auto-da-fé lasting from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mr. Carvalho has asked to return to Lisbon for some months for the recovery of his health and this will probably be granted. Spanish naval intelligence. Forwards correspondence from Cayley and from Gibraltar.
Date and place: 1742 Nov 12 Lisbon.
