Folio 250: Thomas Burnett to Duke of Newcastle. The four sailors from the William & Elizabeth accused of murdering their master, William Mitchell as per his letter of 22 May 1726 (S.P.89/33, f.87), together with a fifth (who confessed) captured and imprisoned latermay shortly be released if brought to trial, for lack of evidence. Encloses copies of the relevant correspondence with Dormer and the Portuguese lawyers (ff.242-46), and shows that he has not neglected his duty `in an affair which certainly deserved an exemplary punishment.'.
