Folio 33v. To Blathwayt. Gives a detailed account of the funeral ceremonies for the late elector, both at Dresden, on July 3/13, and at Freiberg, on July 4/14. None of the foreign diplomats had been invited to attend the 'solemnity'.

- From which it does not follow that Stepney's report is not that of an observant eye-witness. This might appear confirmed by the penultimate sentence: 'I must not omitt telling you I never saw thicker rain in my life than what wee had just as theywere on their march both the 3rd to Church [Kreuzkirche, Dresden] and on the 4th to Freyberg [basilica]. By which I leave you to imagine what figures they must have made, being all on foot in long dragling cloaks'.
