Description

Folio 175: Wich to Carteret. Despite much opposition from French partisans, and intriguing of secret enemies making negotiations very difficult, on treaty of Friendship, Union and Mutual Defence signed by me and the Plenipotentiaries of Russia. As Czarina is leaving for Petersburg tomorrow all the horses are needed for her retinue and none are available for the courier to bring to you the concluded treaty. Lestock being useful has been advanced the first half years of the pension granted by HM i.e. £300. Apprehension about Treaty of Commerce between Russia and France entirely unnecessary. Edict to be made today or tomorrow prohibiting all future wearing of gold or silver lace, Brocades, Silks French Velvets etc in all Czarina's Dominions this will ruin all French commerce here. Dated Moscow, 13 Dec 1742.
