Folio 216: Finch to Harrington. Czar's birthday celebrated in Goula. Account of proceedings. De la Chetardie had audience with Czar and handed in letter of revocation of character of Ambassador and a new credential of Minister plenipotentiary. New embassy here fromthe Contayska or Black Kalmuks; independent people from between Siberia and India, bordering the Mogul country, China and Russia. The Douski Kalmuks commanded by the late famous Don Duc Ombo was a colony detached from them 100 years ago, settled on the Don protected by Russia and paying no taxes. Six orders of St. Alexanda presented on Czar's birthday. Account of Factory and its problems. Turkish ambassador's brother leaving with affair finished. Next week there should be notice of an action with Sweden to report. Dated St Petersburg, 15 Aug 1741.
