Folio 157: Finch to Harrington. When I enquired about my pro-memoria Count Osterman indicated papers on his table which show the attitude of the Cabinet but that he had no time to go into it. I said his answer in writing awaited only to be transmitted to my court for exchange of ratifications or to deliver my letters of revocation. Osterman declared it necessary to have some discussion on the negotiation. I desired speedy conclusion so that I could depart avoiding an unbearable winter journey. Count Lynar visited Osterman after me to present his Promemoria and insisted on an answer as to where, when and how Russia will help the House of Austria. Lynar has mentioned this to the Prince of Brunswick asking his help with the Regent and his brother - this may recommend him to the King and Republic of Poland and ease his claims to Courland. D'Alion and Turkish ambassador had two hours Tete a Tete without an interpreter therefore difficult to learn what happened. De Swart told me Count Gyllemborg's verbal answer to Rumpf's memorial which was written down later. Burnaby in his hurry to leave Stockholm may not have sent a translation, so I enclose one. Hearing that Sir Cyril Wich will not be here before Michaelmas, I beg HM's leave to depart from here by 1 September and will despatch luggage and servants by the middle of August and seal all else and leave with Bell. Dated St Petersburg, 28 July 1741.
