Description

Folio 119: Rondeau to Townshend. Afraid that friends of Vienna will hinder the reconciliation with Russia until peace is made by Emperor with allies of Seville. Information from Count Wratislaw via Westphal is that Great Britain being nearly reconciled with Russia would then help the duke of Holstein to regain duchy of Sleswig. This very prejudicial to king of Denmark. Westphal answered he was glad this was ensuing, for his orders were to implement this anyhow, and he thought it could have no ill effects, his master trusting implicitly in England's promises. Holsteiners flattered themselves that this would, in time, turn to their advantage. Duke of Liria and myself told by Magnan, the French secretary, that he has orders to hint to Russia that if war was begun in Italy and it did not relate to Russia, it was hoped Russia would not concern herself in the affair. Until orders for the march of auxiliary troops given, such instructions hindered, as pronouncement now would make war appear inevitable. French minister in Sweden says if 30,000 men march, France and allies' of Seville would declare it a rupture. France not likely to suffer as she has no trade with Russia. We might be considerable losers. Prince Tamas informs General Levanshoff, commanding army in Persia, that he is in possession of Ispahan, and is complimented in return on his restoration.
