Two Italian ships carrying supplies for Air Force sunk in submarine attacks on 18 September (ASI 5313). Important Allied convoy, escorted by an aircraft carrier, reported to be moving east through Sicilian channel on 27 September. A report of Italian airrcraft conducting torpedo attacks on a cruiser may be related (ASI 5560,5585). Further evidence of fuel shortages (ASI 5776-5778,5792,5920)
