- HM African Corps of Foot, captain commandant John Clarke: detachment at Fort James, River Gambia, July 1778 to December 1779.
- HM African Corps of Foot, captain Joseph Wall, December 1780 to June 1782 (garrison at Goree) and February 1784 (on board Wellington at Portsmouth).
- HM Royal African Corps, under John Fraser, from October 1800, and John W Gordon, from October 1808 to December 1812, at Goree and Senegal. Also detachments, including at Alderney, July 1804 (Major Charles Turner); Goree, 1804 to 1806 (Major Richard Lloyd); Guernsey, April to Aug 1807 (Major Thornton) and 1809 to 1812; and Sierra Leone, 1809 to 1812.
