Description

County: Kent Justices, Gaols, Nature: William de Northo; Wye; Rolls and other matter.

mm or rots: 9 28/2 consists of: an original justices' precept for the sessions of 1323 (m. 5); copies or originals of other instruments for this session (ms. 6-7); and copies of writs in favour of the abbot of Battle for his liberty of Wye (ms. 1-4). In the early 19th century it was among the miscellanea of the King's Remembrancer's Office. It seems to have been moved thence when the Gaol Delivery Rolls class was created. Its membranes were numbered in the early 19th century; one (m. 8) was found in Just. Itin. 1/378B, where it had been put about 1890; another (m. 9) is now missing at transfer. The whole document seems to be a file provided by the abbot in a dispute about his liberty.
