Agreement before Giles (E[gidio]), archdeacon of Berkshire, and W[illiam], rector of the church of Bettlesdene, his official, witnessing the settlement of a dispute between the abbot and convent of Rading, of the one part, and T. rector of the church of Englefeld, of the other, relative to a yearly pension of 1 mark claimed by the said abbot and convent in right of their church of Rading, Sir William de Englefeld, knight, son of Alan de Englefeld, patron of the said church, having interposed in defence of the said cause, and divers letters relative thereto having been obtained from Sir Otho, the legate, it is thus agreed that the right of presentation to the church of Englefeld shall belong to the said Sir William, who, with the said rector, agrees that a yearly pension of 1 mark shall be paid to the said monastery from the said church. Witnesses: - Sir Ralph de Mortuo Mari, Roger de Hyda, Richard Neirenut, P. de Gadingeld, Richard de Hechelhamt', and others (named): [Berkshire] Friday before Midsummer, A D 1239. Three seals and two counterseals, injured.
