Thirteen documents concerning suffrage and laws of the United Kingdom. A copy of 'The Maxims of Louis Blanc Compared with the Scriptures,; copies of 'Court Jobbery: or, the Black Book of the Palace; Being an Analytical List of all the Pensions Granted by the Queen,' and 'Peerage Jobbery! Or the House of Corruption and How to Cleanse Them: Involving a Consideration of the Suffrage Question,' both published by, William Strange, 21 Paternoster Road, London; a copy of a letter from the Hasting National Charter Association to their fellow townsmen, stating that taxation without representation is tyranny and universal suffrage is necessary; a copy of chartist songs including, 'The Song of the Lash,' 'The Song of the Scaffold,' 'I'm Afloat! I'm Afloat,' and 'There's a Good Time Coming, Boys'; two copies of the song, 'England to His Sister Island,' by Alfred Earnshaw, whose profits of sale go to the Cork Asylum for the Industrious Blind; a copy of an invitation to the secretary of the People's League, Princess Street, Manchester, for the first general meeting of the People's League for Obtaining Manhood Suffrage to be held at the Free Trade Hall, Peter Street, from James E Nelson, Secretary; a copy of the basis of organization, including the founding principles and the rules and regulations of the People's League; a copy of a notice to the people of the United Kingdom regarding the establishment of the People's League; 'A Review of The Game Laws: with Reflections upon the Present State of the Country' by Robert Gill; a pamphlet entitled, 'The Ceremony of Laying the Inscription Stone of the New Borough Gaol of Manchester,' by Elkanah Armitage, Mayor, from the Manchester Guardian; a copy of a suggestion for the abolition of the Law of Settlement, submitted to Charles Buller by WB West.
