The senders and recipients of the telegrams and correspondence were: A'Court [Major Charles], Bond [Anthony], Campbell [Lieutenant John, 1st Cameron Highlanders], Earle [Lieutenant Francis Alfred], Gatacre [Major General Sir William Forbes], Hickman [Major Stopford Cosby], Kincaid [Major Charles Style], Kitchener ['Sirdar' General Horatio Herbert], Marsh [Captain James Reynolds Maxwell], McNamara [Colonel William Henry], Money [Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Lorn Campbell], Murray [Lieutenant Colonel Robert Hunter], Pigott [Lieutenant Grenville Edmund], Rawlinson [Captain Sir Henry Seymour], Ramsden [Lieutenant Carlyle John], Russell [Veterinary Lieutenant William Edward], Seccombe [Captain Archibald Kennedy], Sloman [Captain Henry Stanhope], Snow [Major Thomas D'Oyly].
The majority of telegrams relate to the initial deployment of the British force in Sudan, in particular to rations, stores and equipment. The deaths of Sergeant Albert Newton Mumby and Private Walter Bailey (1st Lincolnshire Regiment), and Private Henry Burrows (1st Royal Warwickshire Regiment) were reported.
