Western Europe: 18th Volksgrenadier Division relieved by 9th Panzer Division, Feb 9-10; 59 locomotives damaged in Westphalia between Jan 28 and 30; appeal from von Rundstedt to troops on Western Front to defeat Allied attempt to capture Ruhr industries, Feb 10; CinC West request for reinforcements for garrisons of West Frisian Islands; GAF urging economy in use by all services of 2-cm machine-gun ammunition because of decline in production; none of divisions in 1st Army in high category of fighting efficiency.
Naval Headlines: no contact made with Allied convoy JW 64 by U-boat Group Rasmus; Naval Chief Command North requested by army for battle swimmers to destroy road bridge over Saar at Saarlautern, and later for use on Rhine; Japanese Chief of Staff 13th Base Force, Rangoon, reported Allied landing in Taungup area, orders for withdrawal to be sent separately; Japanese submarine RO-46 embarked fifty army and navy personnel for evacuation from Luzon; air raid by Allied Super Fortresses expected on Singapore.
