Southern Europe: Germans claimed that so far 1700 Italians and 70 guns had been captured on Samos by Nov 24; Hitler demands exceptional care in selection of junior commanders for Fortress Infantry Battalions which were being formed on Rhodes, Nov 20; Leros to be main German naval base in eastern Aegean and to be strongly defended, Nov 18; 16th Panzer Division expected further Allied thrust in Aventino Valley on Nov 24; GAF transferring reconnaissance and ground attack aircraft from Albania to Mostar in southern Yugoslavia for long operational undertaking, Nov 23, these units were replacing GAF units previously at Mostar which were being sent to Russia, some fuel and bombs to be transfered from Sarajevo to Mostar; Germans having shipping problems after abandoning Krk Island, south of Fiume; Allied air raid destroys 3 factories in Sofia on Nov 24; anti-aircraft reinforcements being rushed to Turin to defend Fiat Works and the ball-bearing factory there.
