Southern Europe: GAF orders for attacks on heavy units in Straits of Messina, Sept 8; German Naval Command, Rome, orders naval forces south of Rome to be at half hour notice, those north of Rome at two hour notice, Sept 7; air fields in Crotone area either blown up or ready for demolition, Sept 7; Capua airfield almost destroyed in Allied air raid, Sept 6; GAF reconnaissance report of convoy of landing craft escorted by cruiser and with air cover, north of Palermo, heading north west, at 1450 hrs Sept 7; convoy sighted 70 miles north of Palermo, 2032 hrs Sept 7; convoy sailing from Mers El Kebir between Sept 4 and 5 believed by Germans to be operation against Sardinia-Corsica, Sept 6; situation report from CinC South for Sept 6, suggests possibility of further Allied landing in Calabria; ex-French destroyers Le Hardi and L'Adroit leaving Toulon. Intelligence summary on Germans and Yugoslavia Sept 7, Germans looking into possibility of recruiting Dalmatians, previously interned in Italy, for an intended operation, Chetnik's leader's proposal for a drive against partisans, German aircraft bombing partisan concentrations near Livno.
