1 item (originally enclosed in [Sir Harry Parkes's] despatch number 71, 26 October 1882) extracted from FO 262/538 (folio 107). Japan: Tokyo Bay. Map, in Japanese, showing the coastline, rivers, forts, docks, ships, a lighthouse, a buoy, and an area within which shooting has been prohibited. Scale: 1 inch to about 1 mile (calculated). Compass indicator. MS additions giving some English translations. In Sir Harry's despatch, the map accompanied a translation of a letter sent to him, by Inouye Kaoru, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the prohibition of shooting resulted from ships passing carelessly in and out of the bay and small shot frequently falling inside the Imperial Summer Palace.
