3 items extracted from FO 2/174. East Africa. 'Map of the Basin of the Juba [now usually spelled Jubba] River and of the countries to the North and West': 3 copies, showing parts of Abyssinia (now Ethiopia), British and Italian Somaliland (now Somalia), and British East Africa (now Kenya and Uganda). Lithographed at the Intelligence Division, War Office, June 1897. Different MS additions, coloured, to each item, illustrating the achievements of the special mission in that area under Major J R L MacDonald, Royal Engineers. Items 1-2 originally enclosed in MacDonald's letters: (1) 1 October 1898; (2) 10 November 1898.
