[?1504]
Yorkshire: Fulford. Plan of 'fulfurth feld', at the crossroads of the highway from York (marked in Latin at bottom of map) to Wressle with the road to Cawood. Shows fields in strips; gate across lane and hurdle fences in perspective. Annotated to show positions of the Archbishop of York and the Earl of Northumberland and retinues at the time of an affray between them. [About 1:1,200.] [Oriented to the south.] Endorsed: '[Illegible] The mater of the offray be twixt the lorde Arcchbisshop of York & the [illegible].' To illustrate a report (text on map) by Brian Palmes, a member of the Archbishop's company, to the King; the report is dated 'the xixth yere', but the end of the line is damaged and galled, making it unclear which King Henry is specified. Brian Palmes died in 1519: in 1527, on the twenty third of May, the day specified by Palmes as the date of the incident, the Archbishop of York and Earl of Northumberland are known to have been elsewhere.
