2 items extracted from CO 179/170. (1) 'Sketch Map shewing Boundary Lines of Zululand [now Kwazulu] and of New Republic and line marked off by Boundary Commission of 1886-1887'. Scale: 3 inches to 16 miles (incorrectly stated on map to be 1:180,080; a scale of 1:337920 has been pencilled on the map). Compass indicator. Signed by A C McKean, Major, Inniskilling Dragoons, Surveyor to Commission, February 1887. The area shown corresponds to parts of present-day Kwazulu/Natal and Free State, South Africa. (2) 'Map to accompany Report and Diagrams of Boundary Commission of 1886-87'. Shows the boundary, and stone and turf beacons. Scale: 1:253,440. Compass indicator. Signed by A C McKean, Major, Inniskilling Dragoons, January 1887. The map was based on the triangulation of the Intelligence Department map of Zululand (revised July 1885) and covers Kwazulu, now part of Kwazulu/Natal, South Africa. (1) 63 cm x 78 cm; (2) 69 cm x 40 cm.
