Administrative / biographical background

The Principal Supply Officers Committee (PSO) was set up in 1924 under the Master of the Ordnance's aegis. It was reconstituted in 1927 under the Board of Trade. From 1936, the Minister for the Co-ordination of Defence became Chairman. The PSO functioned largely through sub-committees whose work was co-ordinated by the Supply Board.

After 1927, the PSO was designated wider functions of locating capacity and considering the expansion of industry.
