Inset: 'Outline Sketch of the Lines of Boulair from Boulair Cemetery'. Manuscript additions show position of advanced works, June 1878. Scale: 6 inches to 2 miles. Compass indicator. Enclosed in Henry Layards's despatch no 720 of 5 June 1878. A pencilled note reads: 'To be reduced - wanted early. 150 copies.' This map also illustrated print of Henry Layard's despatch number 747 of 7 June 1878 (in FO 78/2790): see MPK 1/482/15 removed from FO 358/5 (papers of Sir Lintorn Simmons), and MFQ 1/871 removed from FO 881/3652. Sketched December 1876 by Lieutenant G A Cockburn, Royal Engineers, and Lieutenant Herbert Chermside, Royal Engineers, under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel R Home, and on instructions from Sir Lieutenant General Lintorn Simmons, Inspector General of Fortifications.
