Horizontal scale: 1 inch to 1 mile [1:63,360]; vertical scale: 1 inch to 40 feet [1:480]. Compass star. [By] Francis Wiswall, Engineer; lithographed by Henry Blacklock & Co, Manchester and London. Insets: enlarged plan of the terminus of Mersey and Irwell Navigation at Runcorn, showing existing and proposed new locks; enlarged plan of the terminus of the Bridgewater Canal and its junction with the Mersey and Irwell Navigation. Inscribed in the margin: 'To Mr T Houghton, London and North Western Railway, 21 June 1886'.
