Description

Short title: Attorney General v Molyneux.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Edward Ward, kt (Attorney General).

Defendant(s): Sir Caryll Molyneux, bart Viscount Maryburgh, in the Kingdom of Ireland, Sir William Gerard, bart Sir Nicholas Shelburne, bart William Standish, Thomas Eccleston, William Dicconson, Thomas Gerard.

Subject of depositions: Manor of Euxton and the lands of the defendant Molyneux therein; the hall and demesne of Garswood, and the manor of Ashton in Makerfield, in possession of defendant Gerard; lands, in Launds alias Launs, in the possession of defendant Sherburne. Was Anne Sherburne (widow and relict of Richard Sherburne) dowable of said lands, and how long did she receive said dower? The Hall of Ince, near Wigan, belonging to defendant Thomas Gerard. The sum of £300 said to have been paid said Thomas by one Mr Fortescue to build a convent at Wigan. Edward Standish and his wife Dame Elizabeth Standish (father and mother of defendant William), and their lands of Woolston, in the parish of Warrington. Sir Roger Bradshaigh, of Haigh; lands in Eccleston belonging to defendant Eccleston; Hugh Dickonson and his wife Agnes (father and mother of defendant Dickonson), and their lands in Writington and Shevington; Juliana, wife of defendant Dickonson and daughter of Richard Walmsley, late of Dunkenhalgh (Lancashire). Whether the sum of £300 per annum payable, or any wages secured by the defendant Dickonson out of his estate in Lancashire, to John Laban or any other person, for the support of the secular priests of the Church of Rome or maintenance of the Romish religion or any such uses. Survey of said lands. Whether certain witnesses, vizt. Thomas Eccleston, the elder, (uncle to defendant William Eccleston), Edward Stockley, Richard Abbott, Robert Webster, and others (named) are known or commonly reputed to be papists or popish recusants, and any of them Jesuits or priests of the popish relegion? etc. [See also 6 W. and M.
