Description

Short title: Attorney General v Cardrow.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Robert Sawyer (His Majesty's Attorney General), for and on behalf of His Majesty, Sir James Butler, kt (the Queen's Attorney - General), for and on behalf of her present Majesty Queen Catherine, and of William Lord Viscount Brouncker, and others, his said Majesty's trustees in reference to the lands, tenements, and hereditaments in the said bill of complaint mentioned, and for and in behalf and in aid of Sir Thomas Williamson, bart Robert Williamson, brother of said Sir Thomas and of Stephen Pitts, Richard Slinger, William Hussey, and James Briggs, of London, merchants.

Defendant(s): James Cardrow, Mattw, Jenison, Richard Mason, William Hobman, Jane Crayle, widow, Elizabeth Hoyes, widow, six of the defendants.

Subject of depositions: Castle and Site of Newark, and messuages, belonging, situate in Newark, Stoke, Balderton, Farndon, and Averham (Nottinghamshire), leased by the Crown to Thomas late Earl of Berkshirehire. Mortgage and sale. Neglect. Waste and spoil, etc. [Chas. Lord Visct. Andover (afterwards Earl of Berkshirehire) and Thomas Howard, esq, (now Earl of Berkshirehire), sons of the aforesaid Earl Thomas are mentioned].

County/place: Nottinghamshire.

Date of commission: 12 February 1683.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 5 April 1683 at Newark-upon-Trent.
