Description

Short title: Attorney General v Becke.

Plaintiff(s): Sir Heneage Finch, kt and bart (Attorney General), (by information) for and on behalf of His Majesty and the sheriff of Gloucestershire for the time being, and the following sheriffs of the county.

Defendant(s): Godfrey Becke, John Hinde, William Farmer.

Subject of depositions: Castle of Gloucester, the constableship of the castle, and the shrievalty of the county. Condition of edifice. Touching the gaol kept in castle and the custody of the county prisoners there. Disagreements as to the custody between the constable and sheriff. Metes and bounds of castle. Appointment and payment of keeper or gaoler. Touching the portions of castle inside and outside devoted to the uses of a gaol. Alleged incroachment upon the precincts of castle during the late interregnum. [John, William, and Gerrard Harmer, and Dr Stringer, patentees of the constableship of castle, are mentioned].
