Description

Short title: Knowles v Broughton.

Plaintiff(s): Robert Knowles alias Knollys.

Defendant(s): Richard Broughton, John Stedman, executors of the will of the late Earl of Essex.

Subject of depositions: Pasture ground called "Uttoxeter Moores" and "Moor Head" in the parish of Uttoxeter (Staffordshire), said to have been granted by the Crown, 14 Eliz, to Walter, late Earl of Essex, and assigned by him to the now defendants. To what use, and to whose use such assignment was made, whether for the payment of the Earl's debts? [A mortgage of the pasture ground by the late Earl of Essex to John Lacy and John Skynner, late aldermen of the city of London, and an assignment of the ground by the late Earl to Sir Christopher Blunt, are mentioned].

County/place: Staffordshire.

Date of commission: 23 June 1602.

Additional information: interrogatories and depositions taken 15 September 1602 at Uttoxeter.
