Intimation to Edward [III.] that at the request of his ambassadors the pope has suspended all proceedings in the papal Curia in a suit brought by the late Thomas [de Insula,] bishop of Ely against certain prelates, clerks and secular persons, until All Saint's day next, by which time he hopes a new bishop will have been appointed; similarly the pope has suspended all proceedings in the suit of the abbot of St. Nicholas, Angers, against the prior and convent of Spaldingge; he has referred the promotion of John Barnet co-elect of Hereford to Audoyn cardinal priest of SS. John and Paul; and the suggested promotion of Androynus abbot of Cluny to the cardinalate cannot be dealt with owing to the absence of the cardinals on account of the plague. Pridem ad . . .
