Description

Ordinance concerning the priory church of Lancaster issued by Archdeacon Henry Becket, including ordinances for the chapels of Gressingham (Gyrssyngham), Seton' and Stalmine (Lancashire) and the church of Poulton le Fylde (Polton'), according to a composition made between Joan North, abbess of Syon (Middlesex) and the convent there, and Archdeadon Becket.

On the face of this roll is a list (apparently partial) of dues possibly associated with the priory church:

  • Sir William Haryngton, for nine quarters of wheat, each quarter priced 13s. 4d. [£6 5s.];
  • John Morley and William Haryngton esq., executors of the aforesaid testament [sic] of the late prior, for arrears of Easter term in the fifth year [£10];
  • The abbot of Whalley (Lancashire) for his pension of £12 per annum [£24];
  • Hugh Chaffare, both for lands and tenements in Poulton le Fylde and for the tithes of sheaves in Torrisholme (Lancashire) for the sixth and seventh regnal years [£7 8s. 0½d.];
  • The rector of the church of Hiesham [Heysham] (Lancashire), for lands and tenements in Heysham for the sixth and seventh years [£4 13s. 4d.];
  • Edmund Frere, farmer of Neelton and Bulk (Lancashire) [£9 16s. 4d.];
  • Edmund Horneby, both for his share of the tithe of sheaves of Lancaster and for agistment in La Rigge (Lancashire), and two acres of meadow beside the moor, for the sixth and seventh years [60s. 9d.];
  • James Pikeryng, both for all tithes of sheaves and for lesser tithes of Stalmine (Stalmyn), Perse, Hakenshaw for the sixth year [26s. 8d.];
  • John Hoggeson, for a tenement in Penystrete for the sixth and seventh years [6s. 8d.];
  • John Kendale, for the third part of a tenement in Lennardestrete for the sixth and seventh years [6s.];
  • Sir Robert Laurence for the tithes of sheaves of Overton (Lancashire), Scotford [Scotforth, Lancashire], Asshton [Ashton, Lancashire] and Stodhagh [Stodday, Lancashire] for the sixth and seventh years [60s.];
  • The rector of the church of Ecleston' [Eccleston, Lancashire] for the pension of his church for the sixth and seventh years [40s.];
  • John Ryall', for a tenement in St Mary's Street, Lancaster [6s. 8d.];
  • Thomas Caleward, for a burgage in the same street for the sixth and seventh years [6s. 8d.];
  • William Esingwolde, for one and a half acres of land called Langlondes for the sixth and seventh years [10s.];
  • Guy Will', for an acre of land and meadow in Mandale for the sixth and seventh years [6s. 8d.];
  • The heirs of Sir James Harington, for the sixth and seventh years [5s.];
  • The heirs of Margaret Mercer, for the sixth and seventh years [12d.];
  • The heirs of Thomas Curekeyn', for one acre of land upon which two granges are built, in the hand of Roger West, for the sixth and seventh years [8s.];
  • John Caton, for tithes of hay of Langhtwyte and Balerigg [Bailrigg, Lancashire] and Burgh (Lancashire) for the sixth and seventh years [3s.];
  • Ralph Oxclif, for tithes of hay from the vill of Middleton (Lancashire) for the fifth and sixth years [12d.];
  • John Wilkynson, for the tithes of hay of Skerton (Lancashire) for the seventh year [16d.];
  • William Lamson, both for the tithes of hay of Skerton from the fifth year and one meadow called Briggemede on the eastern side of the bridge in the twelfth year [2s.];
  • Margaret Gardiner, for the tithes of linen and canvas of Lancaster for the sixth year [3s. 4d.];
  • John Person', for the tithes of linen and canvas of Torrisholme for the fifth and sixth years [8d.];
  • Adam Jackeson', for the tithes of linen and canvas of Heton' [Heaton, Lancashire], Overton and Middleton for the sixth year [8s. 4d.];
  • Edmund Byndewayn', both for the farm of a croft by the priory and for a fishery within the waters of Leyne for the seventh year [22s. 4d.];
  • The abbot of Furness (Furnews), for the pension of Beaumound for the seventh year [26s. 8d.];
  • William Plummer, for his tenement in St Mary's Street (Seyntmaristrete) [Lancaster] for the sixth and seventh years [7s. 6d.].
