Request by John, abbot of Boxley (Kent), and Hermann, abbot of Stratford Langthorne (Essex), pursuant to a scheme of taxation, negotiated by them and the abbot of Rewley (Oxfordshire), to support impoverished scholars of the Cistercian Order at Oxford, in response to a 'querela' presented in the general chapter of the Order in England and Wales, held in St Mary Graces abbey, London, by the abbot of Waverley (Surrey), and subsequent decrees issued by the general chapter (1398).
Following negotiations with the presidents and convocation of the Cistercian provinces of Canterbury and York at Oxford, a schedule of payments to be made by Cistercian abbeys in moieties at Purification and Pentecost next to come is presented. Places mentioned:
