Hampshire and Surrey. (1-4, 8-11) Eight maps (two copies of each of four sheets) of the environs of Aldershot and Woolmer Forest: (1, 8) Aldershot sheet 4: covering Chobham, Bisley and Pirbright; (2, 9) Aldershot sheet 5: centred on the town of Aldershot itself; (3, 10) Aldershot sheet 6: covering Normandy and Worplesdon; (4, 11) 'Woolmer': covering Kingsley, Blackmoor and Greatham. Scale: 6 inches to 1 mile. Based on sheets of the Ordnance Survey six-inch County Series; engraved and transferred to zinc at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton: (1-3, 8-10) 1882, (4, 11) 1883; War Department property revised to 1 April 1888; reprinted: (1-3, 8-10) 1891, (4, 11) 1890. Printed inscriptions on each sheet state: 'For War Department purposes only'. Coloured MS additions to all sheets show woodlands and nurseries; the additions on items (1-4) also show [?War Department] boundaries. Items (1-4) signed by Major [?]Dorward, Royal Engineers, Aldershot, 30 December 1893, and by E O [?]Lamas. Pencilled notes to items (1-4) state that they originally accompanied a letter [not now filed with the maps] to the Adjutant General of Forces, 2 January 1894; illegible signature in pencil.
