Description

Ireland: County Dublin, County Louth and County Meath. Ten sheets of maps of territory in the environs of Dublin (Baile Átha Cliath). (1) The area between Drogheda (Droichead Átha) and Kingstown (now Dún Laoghaire), showing the sheetlines of items (2-10). (2) The city of Dublin and its immediate environs, showing the sheetlines of items (7-10). (3) The environs of Kingstown. (4) The environs of Howth (Binn Éadair) and Kilbarrack (Cill Bharróg). (5) The environs of Lusk (Lusca) and Rush (An Ros). (6) The environs of Balbriggan (Baile Brigín). (7) Part of Dublin, showing Linen Hall barracks and Aldborough House. (8) Part of Dublin, showing Island Bridge barracks and the nearby infirmary, hospital, stores and military prison. (9) Part of Dublin, showing Portobello barracks, Wellington barracks, Ship Street barracks and a distillery. (10) Five maps on one sheet: three show Mountjoy barracks, Richmond barracks and Beggarsbush barracks, and the other two show the sites of the three barracks relative to each other and to other parts of the city and its environs. Reference tables to items (1-2). Scale: (1) 1 inch to 1 mile [1:63,360]; (2-6) 6 inches to 1 mile [1:10,560]; (7-9) 1:2,500; (10) 1 inch to 1 mile, 6 inches to 1 mile and 1:2,500. Compass indicator to each item. Based on Ordnance Survey of Ireland maps surveyed from about 1837 onwards. These versions printed at the Ordnance Survey Office, Southampton, 1890. Printed inscriptions state that the maps were to be used solely for War Department purposes. Coloured MS additions to each item show War Department sites and property. MS notes dated 1895-1896.
