Kingdom of the Netherlands: Ath (or Aat; now in Belgium). Two maps and three sheets of drawings: (1-3) 'Section descriptive of the Ground which commands the Works of Ath ...': three drawings relating to item (5), mounted on a single backing sheet; (4) 'Plan of the Fortifications of Ath as it is proposed to restore them'; (5) 'Plan of Ath showing the present state of the Fortifications'. Scale: (1-3) 1 inch to about 30 feet [1:360]; (4-5) 1 inch to about 354 feet [1:4,248]. Compass indicators to items (4-5). Dimensions: (1) (1) 28 cm x 266 cm; (2) 20 cm x 118 cm; (3) 17 cm x 149 cm; (4) 64 cm x 80 cm; (5) 65 cm x 88 cm.
Originally accompanying the Report of the Committee of British Engineers on the Fortresses of the Netherlands; the report is not filed with these drawings. This piece was part of a collection of plans and drawings held by Major General Sir John Jones which, following his death in 1843, were sent to the office of the Inspector General of Fortifications; correspondence about the transfer and a list of the plans and drawings are among the papers in WO 55/959
