This series contains registered files raised by the Planning Division relating to the establishment of new towns in Wales. Selected files deal with Newtown, Powys (formerly Brecon) and Llantrisant, Glamorgan. Neither of these were included in the original list of designated new towns. Following a public enquiry, the development of Llantrisant was discontinued.
The files cover all aspects of the exercise from the initial proposal (predesignated status) through the statutory procedures, including master plans. In the case of Llantrisant, the files ended once the result of the enquiry was known. They do not deal with general policy but cover the more practical aspects of the work.
Records relating to the establishment of Cwmbran new town are at the Gwent Record Office. The records of the Llantrisant Enquiry are at Glamorgan Record Office.
