Description

Correspondence from 'offices' (Government departments and other organisations) on matters relating to the Leeward Islands. Correspondents and subjects are as follows:

Offices:

  • House of Commons (Dominica: grant in aid; St Kitts: riots and disturbances, finances and money received on account of Crown lands);
  • House of Lords (report on finances and administration);
  • Admiralty (St Kitts: riots and disturbances, state of affairs);
  • Crown Agents (money order accounts, Barbuda lease, Barbuda Island Company, Master of the dredger Pholas John E Clark, sale of the SS Victoria, insurance of the Pholas, pension of Mr C A Barber, financial instructions, title to the Land Assurance Fund; St Kitts: funds, post of Prison Officer and offer to W H Hoar, accoutrements and saddlery, purchase of the estate 'La Guerite', passage for wife of Sergeant Major Bell, uniform for Sergeant Major Bell, overdrawn account, stamps and postcards; Dominica: jetty plant at Roseau, purchase of Crown Lands by the British Guiana Exploration Company, post of midwife; Montserrat: account of the colony, local issue of 4% debentures; Antigua: account of the colony, harbour works at St John's, sinking fund and loan, salary of J Hobbs and passage for his wife);
  • Treasury (copyright returns and duties; Dominica: proposed grant in aid, development and imperial loan; St Kitts: Sergeant Major of Police, Superannuation Act 1892);
  • Foreign Office (illicit spirit trade between St Martins and Anguilla);
  • War Office (rifles for the Protective Force; St Kitts: arms and Martini-Henry Rifles for the Volunteers).
