When Sir Claude Inglis returned to England to take up his post at the Hydraulics Research Station in 1947, he brought back many personal and official papers, and this series consists of those papers which survived at the Hydraulics Research Station.
Sir Claude Inglis, the first Director of the Hydraulics Research Station, (1947-1958), gained his early experience in irrigation in India, where, between 1916 and 1938, he initiated and directed irrigation research and development for the Bombay Presidency. From 1938 to 1945 he was the Director of the Indian Waterways Experiment Station, Poona.
