Description

Testimonials.

  • Correspondence relating to the employment of men in the Army Works Corps in the Crimea.
  • Most of the correspondence was addressed to Sir Joseph Paxton or to his secretary, Frederick Wragge.
  • The testimonials give addresses, trade and details of character and previous employment. In some cases a note on the correspondence indicates whether or not the man was provided with employment. Some of the testimonials were printed and some were written for previous applications for work and date back to 1846. However, the correspondence relating to appointments in the Army Works Corps falls within the covering dates given.
