Description

Discrepancy Book.

  • Adjustments made to the accounts of the Army Works Corps as a result of discrepancies.
  • The book is in the form of credits (left hand page) and debits (right hand page) to the main account. The credits relate to overpayments in wages and allotments made in England that had not been deducted in the Crimea pay books due to the advice of a change in circumstances not having arrived in time to stop the payment. The debits relate to wages and allotments that were due but had not paid. In most cases the reasons for both were either death or desertion.
  • There are separate pages for Officers and for the Commissariat Branch.
