Description

Captured ship: Land's Welfare of Flushing otherwise Lands Welvaren, or Salus Patriae (master Tobias Zacharias, otherwise Tobias Sacharias or Zacharias).

History: a Dutch merchant ship (130 tons/50 lasts, 6 guns, 10 men, built in the Dutch Republic), bound from Terceira and Fayal in the Azores to Amsterdam, laden with wine [sherry, sack], sugar and Brazil tobacco; taken on 7/17 July 1672 off Scotland near the Fair Isle [between Shetland and Orkney] by HMS Eagle (Sir William Reeves commanding), and brought into Hull. HMS Eagle was in company with two small merchant ships and a naval fireship, which the Dutch crew were ready to fight, before the appearance of the large warship Eagle.

  • SP 3: summary of charterparty;
  • SP 4: cargo manifest.
