Prisoner Name: John Hewson, aged 34.
Court and Date of Trial: Stafford Assizes, 11 March 1848.
Crime: Assault and Robbery.
Initial Sentence: 7 years.
Gaoler's Report: ‘Character bad’.
Outcome: Nil.
Petitions and letters: Petition from the prisoner stating that he is innocent, that this is his first conviction, that he has offers of employment if released, and as a Jeweller by trade would be unable to earn an honest living in a foreign country. He asks to remain in this country and be sent to Pentonville prison.
