Description

Folios 120-121: John Tower, HMS Curacao, Milford Haven. Reporting that dispatches for Rear Admiral Robert Stopford were in consequence of the two enclosed letters [Inc.] from Commissioner [William?] Shields. He was shown a letter addressed to the Senior Naval Officer directing that dispatches to be forwarded to Rear Admiral Robert Stopford on the event of his having left the station. As Senior Officer he should have complied with this direction but Commissioner [William?] Shields informed him they were of no immediate consequence to the service.

Folios 122-123: enclosure with folios 120-121. Letter dated 26 May 1811 by Rear Admiral Robert Stopford, HMS Scipion, Simons Bay. Permission to open dispatches in his absence. Signed a true extract by Commissioner William Shields. [Also] Rendezvous, Port Louis in the Isle of France signed Rear Admiral Robert Stopford HMS Scipion, Simons Bay. Dated 10 May 1811. Signed a true copy by Commissioner William Shields.

Folios 124-125: enclosure with folios 120-121. Letter dated 28 May 1811 by William Shields, HM Naval Yard, Cape Town. Covering letter for an extract of a letter [Inc.] [see folios 122-123] from Rear Admiral Robert Stopford in consequence of which he requests the dispatches be sent to him in Cape Town. Reports that Rear Admiral Robert Stopford sailed from Simons Bay on the 26 May 1811 for the Island of Java, but the Rendezvous he has entrusted him with, to be given such of the Kings Ships as may arrive at the Cape, is Port Louis in the Isle of France. Rear Admiral Robert Stopford will not be at the Rendezvous till September
