Folios 161-162: Sandford Tatham, North Shields. Encloses a letter from Mr Spearman, Magistrate and a Major of the Hartlepool Volunteer Artillery. States that he has no power to act in the Hartlepool area.
Folios 163-164: enclosed with folios 161-162. Letter dated 24 December 1798 by C. Spearman, Hartlepool, writes that some men have joined his Corps merely in order to avoid being impressed. One, Christopher Prissirk was formerly a seaman but has now deserted from the Volunteer Artillery. Asks that the press gang be sent to deal with matters.
