The Transport Technology and Telematics (TTT) division worked on the strategy for and the co-ordination of transport technology and intelligent transport systems (telematics), including transport direct and real-time information system; demonstration of electronic road user charging (RUC) and associated off-road research; and smart cards.
In 2000, there were four branches in the division:
Branch 1 worked on road demonstration design, technical appraisal, management and monitoring; management of the off-road research projects; smart card and standardisation in line with the European Committee for Standarisation (CEN); and the real-time information project.Branch 2 worked on strategy for and co-ordination of transport technology, including e-commerce and teleworking; support for transport direct champion; and summits.Branch 3 worked on development of a national public transport information system; transport direct implementation; and traveline.Branch 4 was dedicated to project management for transport direct.In 2002, the division was reduced to two branches:
Branch 1 worked on road demonstration design, technical appraisal, management and monitoring; management of the off-road research projects; smart card and standardisation in line with CEN; and the real-time information project. Branch 2 was called Transport Direct team and focussed on strategy for and co-ordination of transport technology, analysing the impact of information communication technologies such as the internet on transport, and developing policy on impact of teleworking on transport.
