Folios 273-274: John William Spranger, HMS Amethyst, Chatham. Apologises for being 'troublesome about leave' but explains that his friend Baker has asked him to be at Hertford the following Monday to vote for him, and as he has some property in the county he is hoping to get him more support than just himself and his brothers - however this does mean he needs to ask for 3 or 4 days more leave. Adds that the ship is now out of dock but not yet out of the shipwrights' hands and every exertion will be made to speed this up.
