The Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI) is part of the Department for Business and Trade. It was launched in October 2024. The purpose of OTSI is to ensure the implementation and the enforcement of trade sanctions imposed by the UK government. It does so by raising awareness of trade sanctions; issuing licences for the provision of standalone services otherwise prohibited; supporting businesses with trade sanctions compliance through engagement and guidance; and detecting and responding to suspected breaches. OTSI is not responsible for the criminal enforcement of trade sanctions, as this responsibility lies solely with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
