Folios 269-270: Daniel Ross, HMS Ariel, Spithead. Pursuant to the Admiralty's orders of 26 April 1814, he has arrived at Spithead. He has been on the coast of Africa having sailed from Cape of Good Hope on 14th September 1814. He called into Sierra Leone on 7 October 1814 for provisions and then into Goree on 19th October to suit the merchants. He encloses a log of the procedings, a statement of the condition of his vessel and also a return concerning the freight.
Folio 271: enclosure to folios 269-270. List of officers acting on board. It lists only Mr Poynter Crane a lieutenant. He was appointed by Captain Higman in exchange for an officer, named William Flinn, who was suffering from ill health.
Folio 272: enclosure to folios 269-270. An account of the defects aboard his vessel signed by him and also by the Carpeter, Thomas Harley.
Folio 273: enclosure to folios 269-270. Return of freight taken aboard HMS Ariel on account of the merchants along the coast of Africa. Gold dust to the weight of over 8 tons is listed.
