Folios 231-232: John Tremayne Rodd, HMS Indefatigable, Plymouth Dock. Acknowledges the orders that all ships should stow their ballast according to a new plan, but points out that the Indefatigable is a frigate cut down from a ship of the line and that when Captain Sir Edward Pellew commanded her, he tried various trims and found that only one worked best, which every subsequent captain has followed. Asks permission to keep her ballast stowed as it currently is.
