Folios: 270-270v. Honor of Bolyngbrok [Bolingbroke], in one box, marked by the letter B. Settlement of a dispute regarding the election of the prior of Spalding.
First party: Ranulf, earl of Chester and Lincoln [Ranulf de Blundeville].
Second party: The abbot and convent of St Nicholas, Angers.
Place or subject: Whereas a dispute has arisen between the earl and the abbot and convent about the ordination of the prior and priory of Spalding, whose patronage the earl has, it was at length settled in this manner amicably between them: when the priory of Spalding happens to be void by the death of the prior or otherwise, the abbot of St Nicholas of Angers for the time being, for himself and his convent, by himself or by his proctor and that of the convent of Spalding, is to make known to the earl and his heirs after him that the priory is vacant at the proper time, and seek licence from him to elect a prior. The abbot or his proctor is to come to the priory and elect a suitable prior from within or outside. [Further details given].
County: [Lincolnshire].
