Folios 183-184. Duke of Schomberg to the King from Chester. He writes of communications with []Percy] Kirke, who he believes to be in the Isle of Inch. It seems from the letters that those at Inniskillen could find an opportunity to join up. To date he has not been able to ascertain how many provisions are left in Londonderry. He hopes that Kirke, a capricious man, has followed the King's orders; if they can find but two of his warships, the commanders can advise them on where to land and where the largest enemy forces are located. He hopes that they will also see arrive some ships from Bristol and perhaps some from London, which left more than eight days ago from Portsmouth. he is concerned Londonderry cannot hold out. They have had to shoot a deserter from the Dragoons regiment, four have mutinied from another - they won't be able to avoid hanging one - and some Irish 'papists' [Roman Catholics] found in the Regiments have been put in prison. Sir John Morgan is taking great care to discover and imprison those working to allow enemies to enter the Kingdom. All those writing from Ireland refer to their need for cavalry and dragoons.
